Saturday, August 17, 2013

CD 102.5 SummerfestAccording to www.dictionary.com, the definition of a partnership is as follows: the state or condition of being a partner: participation; association; and joint interest. And so it is with Heartland Bank and the alternative station, CD102.5. Both organizations participate in each others’ events, they promote their association with each other by following the Listen Local/Bank Local theme and both organizations have a joint interest in philanthropy and community service. Did you know that over the last 20 years that CD102.5 has donated nearly $1,000,000 to children’s charities in central Ohio through their CD102.5 for the Kids 501(c) (3) organization? Or that Heartland Bank is hosting their 16th annual Heartland Bank Charity Golf Classic this fall and since 1996 has donated $294,000 themselves to many of the same children’s charities? Yep, it’s a good partnership!

Reynoldsburg Tomato FestivalThe tomato arrived in America in the late 1700’s along with many myths surrounding it. Did you know that early Americans thought tomatoes were poisonous? Fortunately for all of us, more than 250 years later, adventurous gardeners like Thomas Jefferson helped the tomato gain popularity. Though botanically a fruit, the Supreme Court ruled the tomato a vegetable in 1893. The import tax placed on vegetables (but not fruits) protected U.S. tomato growers at that time from foreign markets.
