Ask anyone that works at Heartland Bank about Jerry McClain, you’ll hear that he’s been a dedicated Board member for 25 years, served as general contractor for the beautiful Newark branch and is an integral part of the Heartland Bank family. And if you ask the Licking County Chamber of Commerce about Jerry McClain, they’ll tell you that they recently awarded him with the John Alford Community Service Award for ongoing efforts to renew and improve downtown Newark.

Ben BabcanecAs a youngster in Norwalk, Ohio, Heartland’s VP, Retail Sales Manager Ben Babcanec thought he’d grow up to be a baseball player. Or a teacher, just like his Dad. Or a community banker, just like his Mom. Shortly after graduating with a finance major from the University of Toledo in 2001, a teller job opened up in Gahanna at Heartland Bank and that, as they say, is the “rest of the story”. Thirteen years and several different positions later, Ben is now an integral part of the senior management team here at Heartland Bank.

As we approach the middle of March and spring is just around the corner, we look to St. Patrick’s Day and its celebrations, leprechauns, green beer and four leaf clovers. For Heartland Bank’s Dublin branch, we’re gearing up for the annual “Greenest, Grandest St. Patrick’s Day Parade” at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15. Thousands of central Ohio residents and out of town guests line the streets as the mile-long community parade marches through historic Dublin. If you’re looking for a great spot to watch the parade, stop by our Dublin branch for coffee and doughnuts at 6500 Frantz Road and enjoy a front row seat!

The Gahanna Jefferson Public Schools have embraced technology as well through the gamut of cloud computing, bandwidth, HTML, java applets, spyware detection and web services – all while developing a great digital learning curriculum for the students in the district.

Emerging Leaders Graduation

Heartland Bank celebrated the graduation of our Emerging Leaders program on Monday, February 3, at the Embassy Suites/Columbus Airport.  Flanked by former Human Resources Director Stephanie Toalston and Heartland Bank President Scott McComb, our graduates are from left to right, AAO Retail Coordinator Lacey Monahan, Ryan Arras, AO Senior Loan Processor Kim Davis, AAO Assistant Manager Kelsey Stief and AAO PCSR Joe Pissocra.  These five employees have made the commitment to move into a more aggressive leadership role at the bank.

Emerging Leaders is a program that provides leadership training that is designed to educate and inspire leaders in community banking. It provides a unique experience of self- realization, relationship building, professional education, strategic thinking, and personal growth.
