Westerville Music and Arts Festival Celebrates its 40th Anniversary

 Monday, July 08, 2013

Westerville Music & Arts FestivalFor the past 39 years, the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce Music & Arts Festival has been a summer highlight for area residents. In 1974, the festival began as a small “street fair” with only 50 artists exhibiting their work. Today, the Music & Arts Festival has grown to accommodate more than 130 fine artists and craftspeople from around the country with an estimated attendance of 18,000 over the course of the weekend. Heartland Bank is proud to serve as this year’s presenting sponsor.

The Chamber has continually monitored the quality of the Festival by making it juried; only artists selected by a panel of judges can participate. The Festival has expanded to include the: Heritage section where craftspeople not only display and sell their works, but dress in period costume, and the Westerville Walkway, which consists of civic service organizations and features emerging artists from Westerville and the surrounding areas.

Another major addition to the Festival is the youth exhibit which allows young artists (ages 3-18) to get involved with a major art show and display their talents. Furthermore, in recognition of the ‘Year of the Arts’ in Westerville, the Festival will feature a fun and interactive youth tent, including Louie! Author and illustrator Will Hillenbrand, hands on art activities, ‘Creative Fun with Recyclables’ with Eric Marlow, Interactive Storytelling with Candace Mazur Darman, ‘Fun with Fiber’ with Gail Larned and a magic show with Nate LeGros. The Youth Tent will be open from 11 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 and from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 14.
