Arts in the Alley Celebrates 36 Years in Grove City

Celebrating 36 years in 2015, Arts in the Alley is held the third weekend of September every year in downtown Grove City. Hosted by the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce (GCCC), more than 100 juried exhibitors display and sell fine art, photography, jewelry, crafts, fabric art, glasswork, pottery and wood creations. A variety of musical entertainment is also featured throughout the weekend – high school marching bands and show choirs, jazz, blues, classic rock, folk, gospel, country and much more. Brewing up Some Fun at the 2015 Ohio Craft Brew Festival

2015 Bluegrass on Main Street in Newark

The history of bluegrass music is traced back to British and Irish immigrants who arrived in Appalachia in the 18th century and brought with them the musical traditions of their homelands. Some 300 years later, bluegrass music is alive and well and being celebrated locally in Newark at the second annual Bluegrass on Main Street event this Saturday, August 29.

Times were tough in the mid-1970s for the Village of Johnstown Fire Department. Former Fire Chief, Johnny Johnson, realized that in order to provide much needed EMS service to the community, he would have to learn the art of fund raising. And quick! Golf outings and bake sales helped, but were not enough. Forty years later, what started out as a local street fair to earn a few dollars has turned into a full-blown old-fashioned festival with true hometown flair.
