Grove City Kids AssociationIf you live in the Grove City area, and have children who play sports, you’ve probably visited Murfin Fields, located on Haughn Road, directly behind Grove City High School. And, if you’ve been to Murfin Fields, maybe you’ve met one of two long-time board members of the Grove City Kids Association (GCKA), Board President Bob Lewis and Finance Director Sonny DeLong. Over the last 35 years, they’ve been coaches, Commissioners, and Board members for the GCKA and all-around champions for the young people of that community.

Arts in the AlleyWe all know about Tornado Alley, that part of the country that is prone to outbreaks of twisters each spring. The folks in Gahanna know about Acoustic Alley, one of four great stages at the annual Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival. All over central Ohio, kids young and old head out of their houses on Saturday morning to visit their local bowling alley. But here at Heartland Bank, our favorite alley comes around every September in Grove City, at the annual Arts in the Alley festival, celebrating their 34th year in 2013.

All are charity organizations that support children? Yes. All have a connection to central Ohio? All have a very important story to tell? Yes. And so it is with Heartland Bank and the alternative station, CD102.5. Both organizations participate in each others’ events, they promote their association with each other by following the Listen Local/Bank Local theme and both organizations have a joint interest in philanthropy and community service. Did you know that over the last 20 years that CD102.5 has donated nearly $1,000,000 to children’s charities in central Ohio through their CD102.5 for the Kids 501(c) (3) organization? Or that Heartland Bank is hosting their 16th annual Heartland Bank Charity Golf Classic this fall and since 1996 has donated $294,000 themselves to many of the same children’s charities? Yep, it’s a good partnership!

Reynoldsburg Tomato FestivalThe tomato arrived in America in the late 1700’s along with many myths surrounding it. Did you know that early Americans thought tomatoes were poisonous? Fortunately for all of us, more than 250 years later, adventurous gardeners like Thomas Jefferson helped the tomato gain popularity. Though botanically a fruit, the Supreme Court ruled the tomato a vegetable in 1893. The import tax placed on vegetables (but not fruits) protected U.S. tomato growers at that time from foreign markets.
