SBA Announces Small Business Leaders Receive District And Regional Honors

 Saturday, June 09, 2012

COLUMBUS, OH - Douglas M. Morrison, President and Amanda K. Jones Vice-President of Boardwalk 2022, Inc. have been named SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year for 2011 by the Columbus Ohio District and Region V. The Awards acknowledge these individuals on their outstanding achievements on behalf of small businesses in Ohio and through the SBA’s Region V geographic area (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin).

The regional winners from Ohio represent the best in their field. Their tireless commitment to making a difference in their communities is why we have selected them as the SBA’s Midwest Regional winners. It was a pleasure meeting the business owners and champions and acknowledge their incredible accomplishments,” said SBA Deputy Director Kenneth Klein.

After being approved by Subway as franchisees they used the funds they had been able to save and secured financing and in April of 2005 they decided to pursue owning the restaurant. This particular Subway location was underperforming and had a downward trend. Over the next six months, Matt and Amanda worked countless hours to build a solid team and grow sales at the location. The store received numerous accolades from customers and Subway corporate personnel. The sales grew approximately 50% over this time period and Matt and Amanda were awarded the Highest Same Store Sales Increase in the Subway Development area. Together, Matt and Amanda have grown their restaurant portfolio from one to eleven locations in just over five years.

The restaurants consist of the following brands: Subway, Cinnabon, Flip Spot and Dunkin Donuts. Their company added one restaurant in 2007, three restaurants in 2008, three restaurants in 2009, one restaurant in 2010 and two restaurants in 2011with the help of multiple SBA 7a guaranteed loans. Company wide sales have grown from $60,000 in 2005 to more than $5 million in 2011. The companies currently employee more than 125 people and have continued to create jobs within the community every year. Through the economic downturn, their restaurants have not laid off a single employee and have created more than 50 new jobs through sales growth and store development.

Matt and Amanda continue to have daily involvement in the operation and growth of all companies. They currently serve on the Subway Advertising Board and are actively involved in the communities where the restaurants are located.
