After twenty years of operating Raccoon International Golf Course, owners Pete McCoy and Denny Riga have seen it all – from the international display flags being stolen by rambunctious students from Denison University, to the forced redesign of several holes due to the Rte. 161 widening project, and to the nest of bald eagles that reside near the course. But through it all, Heartland Bank has been there as their banking partner.
Raccoon International Golf Club is a public course serving the communities of Licking County and central Ohio. They offer very affordable fees, catering services and also host several golf outings throughout the year. Located adjacent to a 600 acre nature preserve, RIGC is a mature course just 20 minutes east of Columbus in historic Granville, Ohio. The course features striking vistas and beautiful lakes on a challenging and beautifully maintained par 72 layout. Among the most memorable holes are #8 – a par four from a dramatic elevated tee that requires a tee shot as long as 220 yards to clear the lake; #11 – a 121 yard par three over a lake to a two tiered green guarded by a meandering bunker; and lastly, the notorious #17 – a par five that plays a devilish 666 yards from the back tees.
Golfers can choose from four sets of tees on each hole to give the best golf experience for their skill level. If you’re not in the mood for a full round, Raccoon International has a full driving range and practice green to hone your skills. Visit their website from your smart phone or tablet and check out the new online tee time reservation system through Golf Now. The RaccoonInternationalGolf.com website (which is currently being revamped) features photo galleries, weather reports and directions to the course, as well as information about each of the planned outings.
The economic downturn presented a challenge for the owners of the golf course, as it has for everyone. “If it wasn’t for the support of Heartland Bank, our golf course would not be open today,” said owner Pete McCoy. “After being turned away a few times by other banks, (Heartland Bank Chairman, President & CEO) Scott McComb stepped in and saved us! Heartland gave us an appropriate appraisal and better loan terms than any other bank in Columbus. Heartland Bank really reinforces the importance of community.”
