Jersey Mike's Subs - Focus on Customer Service and Quality

 Monday, November 11, 2013

Buy two get one free deals are everywhere! Buy two subs, get one free. Buy two donuts, get one free. Buy two suits, get one free. How about buy two restaurants and get one free? Really? That’s exactly what happened to Heartland clients Pam and Tom Westerlund.

Originally from the Chicago area, the Westerlunds moved to Columbus for Tom’s job and when the “I want to be my own boss” bug hit, they did some research and decided to become franchisees for Jersey Mike’s Subs.  During the 2003 purchase of two locations (in Gahanna and Hilliard), the previous owner offered them a second Hilliard shop.  At no cost.  Now, 10 years later, they are proud and successful owners of five Jersey Mike’s locations.

Gahanna332 South Hamilton Rd. (Hunter's Ridge Shopping Center)
and 1340 North Hamilton Rd. (at Morse Road)
Hilliard: 4664 Cemetery Rd. (Hilliard Square Shopping Center)
Grove City: 4114 Buckeye Parkway
(1 mile east of I-71, off Stringtown Road)
Dublin: 6702 Perimeter Loop Rd. (Perimeter Center)

While the corporate office provides start-up marketing and advertising assistance for each franchisee, the Westerlunds continue to run each of their five stores independently according to the Jersey Mike’s business model, which offers a strong ROI.  This allows owners the wherewithal to support important causes in their community. Pam and Tom donate most of their time and money to March of Dimes and the local Make a Wish Foundation, along with feeding dozens of local school teams and clubs.

The Jersey Mike’s concept is simple. They provide their customers with the freshest, highest quality sub sandwiches available, prepared right in front of them and served with energy and enthusiasm. Their culture of giving and making a difference in the lives of their customers creates an important bond in the communities they serve. The authentic sub sandwich, served Mike’s Way with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, olive oil blend, red wine vinegar and spices, is what differentiates Jersey Mike’s from the others. Authentic means fresh sliced, premium quality meat and cheese. It means bread baked fresh daily in their stores. It means that every morning they hand slice only the freshest onions, lettuce and tomatoes to top their subs.

With stores all around Columbus, Pam makes her way to several of the Heartland Bank branches on a regular basis. “They know me by name at three different locations and I am happy to know all of them,” Pam said. “The people at Heartland Bank are different. I have never had a relationship with my banker before I met Heartland VP, CRM Stuart Schloss in Gahanna.” Pam and Tom focus on customer service and never sacrifice quality, just like the team at Heartland Bank.
