Between backpacks and binders, calculators and crayons, and even scissors and pencil sharpeners, most school supply lists seem endless and those lists, like it or not, signify that the school year is upon us. No matter how often you tell yourself that school can’t really be starting so soon, the reality is that many local schools are starting this year on August 13. Are you ready?
Many central Ohio families are not. Did you know that at the elementary school level, the price for supplies has risen 11% compared to 2013 and for middle school, it’s jumped 20%. Can you help? 104.9 the River and Heartland Bank are partnering again this year to provide stuffed backpacks to the children who are served at the Lutheran Social Services (LSS) Food Pantry. Their parents are working adults who may have difficulty paying rent, utilities or other household expenses. They simply need assistance to make ends meet.
According to Scott McComb, Chairman, President and CEO of Heartland Bank, “Mission Backpack is critical for many central Ohio families. As the cost of school supplies continue to increase, more families are in need. We are proud to partner with The River in order to break down these barriers to a child's education. It’s what community banking is all about."
Every Heartland Bank location has a special Mission Backpack collection box in the lobby and we’ll be happy to accept any donation, big or small, through Monday, August 11. Help equip a child in need for success!
And while you are dropping off backpacks at your local branch, one of our knowledgeable Heartland Bank employees will be able to help you get the ‘supplies’ you need for financial success!
