Kicking off the season will be a visit by the impressive Ohio Proud Mobile Kitchen complete with live cooking demonstrations, as well as a performance by singer/songwriter David Owen.
Thanks to plenty of spring rains, opening day consumers can expect to find sweet corn, late berries, squash, cucumbers, potatoes, Asian vegetables, beets, green beans and peppers among other colorful and flavorful offerings. Quality meats and cheese will be available, as well. And to satisfy your sweet tooth, you won’t want to miss our mouthwatering pies, peanut brittle, cookies and brownies. We’ll even have special treats for sale this year for Fido!
Now in its third year, Reynoldsburg Farmers’ Market attendees can expect to see many familiar vendors along with a few new faces. “We will continue to provide the best in locally grown, healthy food options along with exciting new ways to prepare the food that they buy,” shares Market Manager Nadine Morse. “Additionally, we want our customers to learn the ins-and-outs of buying their produce in-season and preserving it for use during the winter months.”
That’s why they are working with OSU Extension’s Dr. Susan Schocky and Reynoldsburg Community Garden’s Mark Waite to present an expanded version of a safe canning session that was presented last year. This year’s event also will provide tips on best practices for properly freezing and thawing foods. (More information will follow as that date is secured.)
“It’s all about the experience,” adds Morse. “Most of our customers are already aware of the health benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables. They come to the market to build a relationship with the person who grows their food and to discover new and exciting ways to prepare their meals.”
Heartland Bank continues to be the primary sponsor for the market. Cotner Funeral Home and Telhio Credit Union also support this popular community event.
The Reynoldsburg Farmers’ Market is a member of Ohio Proud, the Farmers’ Market Management Network (FMMN) and registered with the Ohio Department of Agriculture. They are also a 2010 recipient of an Ohio Farmers’ Market Cost Share Grant administered by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
