Local Civil Air Patrol Officer Receives Promotion

(Newark, OH) The Civil Air Patrol is pleased to announce that 1st Lt John Morgan, CAP, has been promoted to Captain, during a ceremony held Tuesday, April 13, 2010 in Newark.

 

Capt Morgan serves as the Public Affairs Officer and Recruiting and Retention Officer for the Licking County Composite Squadron, which serves Licking, Knox and surrounding counties in Central Ohio.  Capt Morgan has been a member of the Civil Air Patrol since July of 2006 and was also a cadet with CAP as a youth.

 

 In addition to his duties with the local squadron, Morgan serves as Public Affairs Officer of Group VIII of the CAP Ohio Wing.  Group VIII consists of the seven CAP squadrons serving the Central Ohio area.  He has been an instructor for the Ohio Wing Professional Development Program and recently served as the Course Director of the CAP Squadron Leadership School.  Capt Morgan received the Commanders Commendation Award in March of 2009 for his efforts in establishing the Licking County squadron.

 

Morgan is Branch Manager for Heartland Bank, in Newark.  In addition to Civil Air Patrol, he is on the Board of Directors for Pathways of Central Ohio and is also a member of the Newark Kiwanis Club.

 

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force, is a non-profit organization with 58,000 members nationwide.  CAP performs 90% of the continental US inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC) and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 91 lives in fiscal year 2008.  Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counter-drug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies.  The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to the more than 23,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs.  CAP has been performing missions for America for 68 years.

 

The Licking County Composite Squadron meets every Tuesday evening from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM at the Career and Technology Education Centers of Licking County (C-TEC), Adult Education Wing, 150 Price Rd. in Newark.  The squadron is also jointly chartered as a Venturing Crew through the Boy Scouts of America Venturing Program.  Visitors are encouraged to attend!

 

There are more than 1300 members in Ohio.
