Scott McComb, President & CEO of Heartland Bank stated, "We are proud to be able to help WIC in making the visit to the aid center a bit more enjoyable for the children of the program participants. Helping the participants in this manner is not only rewarding, but it is what community banking is all about."
The WIC Program is a short-term intervention program that is designed to influence lifetime nutrition and health behaviors in a targeted, high-risk population. To accomplish this, WIC provides nutritious foods, breastfeeding support, nutrition education and referral services for pregnant and breastfeeding Women, Infants and Children under the age of 5 years to those who meet the eligibility requirements for participation. Clients are required to come in to one of 19 local WIC clinic locations every 3 months to continue their WIC benefits. WIC in Franklin County has an active monthly enrollment of 37,000. 05-Feb-2010 GAHANNA, OHIO… January 28, 2010… Heartland Bank’s recently donated funds from the Heartland Bank Charity Golf Classic to the Women Infants Children (WIC) organization. Funds donated were used to purchase books that were given to preschool children who came into the Westside WIC clinics on the West Side of Columbus. For many of these children, it may be the only book they own.G.
