completed the intensive one-week program in September.
One of the longest-standing educational traditions in the Ohio banking industry, the School was established in 1955. The comprehensive School offers bankers from across the state the opportunity to enhance their skills in all areas of bank operations and management, and helps them understand the impact changes in the economy have on the profitability of a bank. The highlight of the School continued to be the Bank Executive Simulation where students were divided into groups, selected key roles and then had an opportunity to make “reallife” executive decisions on how to run a bank – all in a risk-free environment – through the ABA-created/supported BankExecTM software program. This was complemented with sessions in Asset Liability, Bank Investments, Strategic Planning, All Risks Management and more.
“Today, many bankers are trained in a specific function rather than as a generalist,” said Stacy Schindler, OBL manager of professional schools, “but those who have potential to rise within the organization need to have a clear understanding of the bank as a whole. The expanded knowledge and abilities gained at the OBL Bank Management School allow bankers to better serve both their customers and their bank.”
According to Bill Campbell, President and CEO, Campbell & Associates, who facilitates the bank simulation program, “The simulation certainly engages each participant in the dynamics of teamwork and develops the decision making process, as the teams establish objectives and develop strategies to accomplish their goals.”
Employees at nearly every level can benefit from the challenging educational opportunities that are offered in a fun and rewarding environment at the OBL Bank Management School. For more information about next year’s program, scheduled Sept. 26 –
Oct. 1, contact Stacy Schindler at 614-340-7608. The Ohio Bankers League is the state’s largest financial industry trade association,
representing 220 commercial banks and savings institutions.
