The Ronald McDonald House of Central Ohio
In this house, families of hospitalized children come to us in their time of need. They find a tiny bit of comfort and peace from the unthinkable that is often their day. In this house, food and warmth are waiting after a long day at the hospital. In this house, siblings of patients find a hint of normal life with a book, a game, or a hug. In this house, families can bond with others in situations they wish nobody could identify with.
Masonic Learning Centers for Children with Dyslexia
Millions of school children with dyslexia endure frustration and demoralization on a daily basis as they struggle to acquire skills that many of us take for granted. The Center offers free one-on-one tutoring to children with Dyslexia as well as free training for individuals who are interested in becoming a tutor for these children. The positive impact of early intervention on the lives of these children and their families is enormous. Children are tutored one-on-one twice a week after regular school hours. This allows for the curriculum to be tailored to each individual child as necessary, and progress is made in small, readily quantifiable steps. For the children, the Center provides them with the skills they need to overcome the effects of dyslexia. For their parents, it provides hope.
Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program supporting Westside preschool children
“WIC is honored to be a recipient of the Heartland Golf Classic. Funds that are donated will be used to purchase books that will be given to preschool children who come into our offices for appointments. The
families that come to us are low to moderate income, and for many of the children it may be the only book they have at home. The primary mission of the WIC Program is to improve overall health and to influence lifetime nutrition and health behaviors during the most critical growth and development years in a child's life - conception to age 5. To accomplish this, WIC provides nutritious foods, breastfeeding support, nutrition education and referral services for pregnant and breastfeeding Women, Infants and Children under the age of
5 years to those who meet the eligibility requirements for participation. Clients are required to come in to one of 19 local WIC clinic locations every 3 months to continue their WIC benefits. During their clinic visits we encourage mothers to read to their children both at home and while they are in our waiting rooms. The books that you purchase through your donation are our only source for books and help us to reinforce this message. WIC in Franklin County has an active monthly enrollment of over 38,000 clients.” Stated Sheila Anderson, Franklin County WIC Program Director.
